Really after such a great opening show in Atlanta it would seem hard to perform as well the next night. Indeed compared to last night the May 1st show seems somewhat slower/shorter and less high energy than last night. Elvis does sing well later in this show however and includes '' Help Me Make It Through The Night '' and  '' Why Me Lord '' tonight.

This 3rd show in Atlanta raises the show level again and it’s almost up to the excellent show on 30th April!. Another great show and Elvis jokes around during '' Love Me Tender '' changing the lines too “what you got on your mind?’The Wonder of You is excellent and after '' Burning Love '' Elvis jokes about the ‘Creeping Crud!’ Steamroller Blues rocks and even more so tonight’s version of T.R.O.U.B.L.E!.We also find that Elvis is in a very humorous mood tonight after a line of the Mickey Mouse March!. Just before closing in Atlanta Elvis says” People are Great in Atlanta!’. Elvis really enjoyed his time here with HUGE crowds and it shows in his great performances and parts of these have been circulating on Video tapes for a while!.

During Elvis’s 2nd weekend of A/S’s & E/S’s Elvis performs MUCH BETTER! This A/S in Monroe is really quite superb and contains MANY highlights throughout-especially from The Wonder of You till the end of this show, I’d personally have to rate this show as 9/10! J.C.Casey wrote a glowing review for the Monroe Morning World saying 'looking more like he used to a decade or longer ago with the long sideburns and long hair combed back, Elvis Presley rode the expected wave of screaming hysteria to it's climax at the matinee concert that would be followed four hours later with the same packaged show generating the same screaming hysteria.'

Casey also said ' it seems impossible that this kind of emotional response can occur in real life just because one man flexes his hips ’. Once when Elvis kissed a lucky young woman, the entire floor section fell back into their seats in awe. Casey continued’ When Presley really works a number, such as ' How Great Thou Art ’, he is truly magnificent. and when he lets out all the stops on a number that has good arrangement and full orchestra back-up vocals such as Burning Love he is dynamite.'

Early on in the show tonight Elvis asks how many Fans were also at the Afternoon Show/. '' Steamroller Blues '' seems to be the highlight of the Evening show which is ‘Great’ but not quite as good as the A/S maybe 8/10 because the American Trilogy start is pretty messed up with ?.We do however get a very brief 1 line of J.Cash’s ‘I Walk the Line’.

With the re-introduction of Polk Salad Annie in his repertoire in Lake Charles and after Saturday’s performances it becoming REALLY Obvious that Elvis is enjoying himself and performing MUCH BETTER than last weekend! Elvis knowing he hadn’t yet performed Polk Salad Annie this year before starting asks the Band;-‘Polk Salad Annie-do we know that?’. He looks better has lost some weight and really into his performances! All shows this tour were ok, but from this weekend till the end of the tour it’s abundantly clear that Elvis has his act together after the somewhat ‘sloppy’ start to this tour.  An American Trilogy is a ‘straight’ version in the A/S but like Little Darling in the same show given too much of a Joked send up by Elvis in the E/S performance.

Little Darlin (A/S)for example to me is one of the Best ever versions I’ve heard!. Just before the afternoon show in Lake Charles Elvis met back stage with Mayor Ronnie Black, who presented Elvis with the key to the City. Ann Gilbert of the America Press noted 'the crowds seemed amazingly orderly thanks to the hundreds of police in uniform and plain clothes’. Elvis mentions after singing Little Darling that Lake Charles has had one of the most responsive audiences this tour and that he really means that!.

Tonight  we get another great show and a more complete version of Jambalaya.J.B.Goode is included as a proper song(instead of a mostly instrumental part of the intros) and different from the A/S What D’Say,Steamroller Blues is also added and it’s obvious the fans have enjoyed yet another great show. Elvis jokes around a lot more and after cracking J.D. up says ‘you laughed real good J.D.’ Also During Funny how Time Slips Away Elvis does an ‘English’ Peter Sellers accent line of ‘Don’t know When Though’ similar to many times during the closing Can’t Help Falling in Love when he’s again say ‘You Know’ in the same Peter Sellers English accent!~.

This show was the Special Benefit Show that the Colonel had arranged with Elvis to raise money for the 9th January Mc Comb Twister  Victims. The total of $113,674.88 was raised. Through Mississippi Governor Bill Waller’s intervention, the Coliseum was provided free of charge to house the 10,242 fans.Elvis and the Colonel also had all the money raised by the souvenir sales contributed to the Tornado victims cause. They even paid for all the shows advertising and production for the show a total of $35,000.Before the show a Check in this amount was presented to the Governor Waller , who then offered Elvis the States thanks’it was an historic occasion,’ commented Waller’This is the biggest Benefit in the State’ Elvis also met backstage Mc Comb Mayor John Thompson and other state officials. This was a rushed meeting and the Colonel was becoming concerned at the growing number of people backstage and kept shouting at the mob “Get them Back,Get them Back!”.

During the show the main showstopper was Elvis’s version of ‘An American Trilogy’.This show was the REASON for  the tour ever starting and I’d personally love to see this as a future FTD release of this Soundboard-good colour photos exist of Elvis before the show AND during the show and would make excellent shots to grace a CD! Why the only piece of Elvis kitsch I own is the Ceramic plate commemorating this event and that came complete with photo’s details surrounding this show as well making a highly collectable package. In today’s economic climate I guess company’s look to ‘short term’ in their sales plans to donate the sale of a FTD CD to future Tornado victims in Mississippi, but it would be a magnificent gesture for a 30th Anniversary release wouldn’t it??.

This was obviously a great show and featured a decent version of ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ for the only time during this tour. Some strange ‘editing’ went on compiling the FTD release from Murfreesboro and CLEARLY just before closing his show on 6th Elvis says he’ll be back tomorrow night!. Bridge and Love Me Tender were added on as ‘bonus’ tracks to the FTD release. Interestingly Elvis gives us a 1 liner of Tom T.Halls ‘I Love’ of ‘I love little baby Ducks’ before singing Love me Tender! Elvis really looks splendid tonight on stage.

Aside from throwing away his 50's hits ('Love Me', 'All Shook Up' and 'Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel'), Elvis seems pretty focused throughout this concert. The version of 'If You Love Me', the version on this CD is as strong as I've heard. 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me', 'The Wonder Of You', 'My Boy', 'I'll Remember You','T-R-O-U-B-L-E' and 'American Trilogy' are also well performed. The highlight of the show is a powerful version of 'Polk Salad Annie' that has some great lead guitar and bass interplay. And for once, I can honestly say that the band intros segment is enjoyable. The segment of 'Johnny B. Goode' really rocks, even though Elvis isn't completely comfortable with the lyrics, and none of the solos are too excessive except for maybe the bass solo, which Elvis even jokingly notes by saying it was 5 minutes too long. Where as at the start of the tour Elvis would introduce the Sweets as just average at the end of the tour Elvis does this saying NO! I was just kidding they’re’ ‘fantastic.’. Elvis seems in Great spirits here joking about the ‘Creeping Crud’-he says he caught from someone a week ago. Fairytale is once again performed a bit too slow. Chatting after this Elvis says how nice the people are in Murfreesboro to come out for 3 different shows and that this is the last night of his tour and that he’d like to say that he met the band back on stage in Macon Georgia (adding we didn’t rehearse we just went on stage and did…..bloooolljhgg!)and hasn’t had a chance to say Hello to them except on stage! Finally he thanks the band for doing a fantastic job and says he’ll see everyone again in 3 weeks time.

Sean Shaver © Murfreesboro, TN.. May 7th 1975

Little Darlin’ next only was recorded for 1 minute (incomplete) and although ‘good’ couldn’t be included on the FTD release, therefore they switch to the end of the 6.5.75 show at this point(verified when Elvis says after FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY that he’d be back tomorrow night) .MOST notable about THIS Soundboard is just (like Elvis performing better as the tour went on) so MUCH BETTER than the awful mixes on the earlier part of this tour recordings! Through most soundboard recordings the Piano Sound is way up-front, hearing audience recordings too proves it wasn’t just the soundboard mix as in each auditorium Piano sound STILL comes across way up-front! The mix of sound seems much more even during the following tour. To hear this mix and much more of it is like a breath of fresh air-great sound!. Impressive also is the fact that Soundboard recordings throughout the next tour  were Much more CONSISTANT in sound quality mix-even if the continued incompleteness was the same!.

After the show Elvis made the short journey home to Memphis and improved his health before coming out again on 30th May for another tour. This has been a tour that just got better as it went on and with plenty of meetings with officials before shows and meeting fans outside hotels, there is a feeling that Elvis was coming out again(similar to April 72’) in his touring style. The average length of shows was probably around the 1 hour in length getting slightly over the hour towards the end of the tour. Incidentally if you want to read ‘in depth’ about the next tour I can recommend Christopher Brown excellent book ‘On Tour with Elvis’ As an essential read.

During his next tour Elvis dropped ‘somber’ Ballads such as ‘My Boy’ or ‘It’s Midnight’ and instead performed more frequently either more‘rockers’such as All Shook Up,Mystery Train/Tiger Man or ‘How Great Thou Art’ which tended to lift/excite up a notch again his performance level compared to this tour. Help me was replaced by Why Me Lord as well. Although Ballads had been performed here because they were still ‘recent releases’ I still have a bit of an issue with songs such as ‘My Boy’ performed on tour-maybe in Vegas where people could cry in their steaks….but ON TOUR in a large venue where people had come out for wanting an uplifting/up-beat repertoire? I’m not so sure?. It’s interesting that Elvis himself summed up this tour STATING how they just came out on stage in Macon(unrehearsed) and thanking the band so much. It’s obvious how much Better the show as a whole was by the end of the tour and it’s sad that Elvis was in 1975 quite content to tour but NOT rehearse(unlike 74’) and this sums up his whole attitude really. This meant in 1975 the poorest shows would understandably be sloppy/unrehearsed whilst other shows sound ‘together/tight’ However during ALL 3 tours this year Elvis promoted his rocker T.R.O.U.B.L.E.
