Before the afternoon show in Lakeland Elvis met with Carolyn Poe of Birmingham Alabama, who was going blind from Diabetes and had written Elvis 200 fan letters, and her desire to meet Elvis had reached the ears of staff members at WDIZ Radio. During the Afternoon show whilst Elvis sounded pretty good, most fans felt he looked tired/pale and lackluster and obviously not at his best.

The evening show was better than the Afternoon Show, but Elvis still looked pale/tired. Following this show Elvis changed clothes back at the Hotel then visited some of the Colonels old friends in Tampa with him ( the next day ) before returning for his final show in Lakeland on Monday.

For this show Elvis seemed much better and had more energy and fans felt this was the Best show ( of the 3 )given in Lakeland. Elvis certainly liked Bill’s When it’s My Time performance, but kids him afterwoods about the underwear that got thrown up on stage whilst he was singing-then gives the garment to J.D. During the intros Elvis gives a very heartfelt history of when he first met J.D. in Memphis when he was only 16.Certainly Burning Love, My Boy are good and even during ‘ Help Me Make it Through the Night ’ Elvis gives a little extra after mixing a few lines, The Hawaiian Wedding Song has Kathy getting the ‘ tender ’ treatment from Elvis and there is no adverse comments from him towards her this tour. Then near the show end in Hound Dog Elvis puts in a great effort at the start.

This was the first of 3 shows in Murfreesboro with the final 2 shows given a week later to end the tour. This first show seems the least good of all 3, still quite good but nothing unusual or memorable and the song list too seems extremely similar to the last few days performances. Certain songs on this tour such as My Boy, I’ll Remember You and If You Love Me and Help Me virtually ALWAYS seem ‘ well performed ’! However Elvis seems pale in Colour and so many ways he looks like the Colour he was during the April 72’ tour-where he also performed well, but didn’t look as good as in the middle of the year, strangely enough virtually the same observations ring true also in 1975!

With Elvis opening in Atlanta at the Omni that was the only place to be and highlights were almost the whole show. Reviewers noted on the first part of the tour Elvis lost some 20lbs between his Macon and Atlanta appearances, From the moment he comes out on stage you can tell Elvis is ‘up’ for the show and before love me Elvis jokes ’ Is this the Astrodome? ’ Elvis never gave out so many scarves before in Atlanta and over 50 were given out this time-especially during Love Me Tender. When a bright Green Bra landed on stage Elvis demanded to know who threw it and so it went on Elvis seems partial to chatting with the fans in Atlanta. Although I’ll Remember You is performed much earlier than usual it’s still a great performance and How Great Thou Art is yet another concert highlight before the intros. Then Elvis remarks about sound system problems.
After
the intros high level performances continue and even It’s Now Or Never is good.
An American Trilogy is excellent as is Burning Love and Elvis gets J.D. Sumner
to repeat the ending on Funny How Time Slips Away. After this Elvis mentioned
that he saw the hundreds of fans looking/shouting up to his Hotel Room in
Atlanta during the afternoon before singing That’s Allright which is a
spirited version and one is left with the feeling ( after listening to this show
) that vocally and repertoire wise this may well be Elvis’s BEST show of this
tour so far-an EXCELLENT show!.
